Yunfei Shu Biography

Ever since Hailin Tattoo studio was established,I have learned and practiced the art of tattooing under Master Hailin Fu. I am good at lines and focusing on details. Mostly, the style of my work is Chinese traditional, realism, modern or a combination of these three.

What should a tattoo be?

A tattoo should be free and unrestrained; impactful but also reserved. Tattoos are meaningful to yourself and play an important role in your life. To other people, tattoos can make them think differently.

Thousands of years ago, Artists would pass the art of tattooing down from one generation to the next, making tattoos become more diverse and artistic. Nowadays, we face the collision of traditional culture with modern art. I am working on merging tradition and modern styles to create a new kind of style. Tattoos should not be limited to traditional ways. In my point of view, traditional and modern meanings are visually appealing separately. I want traditional ways to live on. Tattoos are our way to make a living, that is why we as artist can give back to make tattoos fine art.

Tattoos are different than other forms of art. There is a connection between the artist and client. The tattoo artist must meet the wants and needs of the client but also do it in a way where the tattoo is visually appealing.
